NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service Overview
The NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service builds upon the league’s commitment to support those in need and leave a lasting legacy in the Charlotte community. On Friday, Feb. 15, we will partner with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, the United Way of Central Carolinas and Classroom Central to make a positive impact in the Charlotte community and to create places where children and families can live, learn or play. Members of the NBA family will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on service projects including sorting and repacking food donations to distribute to those in need, refurbishment projects benefitting a Charlotte housing development and packing donations to support low-income children and families.

Food Donation Sorting with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina
Volunteers will sort and repack food donation which will be distributed to children, seniors, families and other individuals in need. Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, serving 19 counties in North and South Carolina, serves over 54 million pounds of food and household items to over 700 hunger feeding agencies including emergency pantries, soup kitchens, senior programs, shelters and low-income daycares each year. The Food Bank sources and acquires food and other products and distributes them to needy people through charitable agencies or directly through programs; conducts hunger education and awareness campaigns and advocates for public policies that alleviate hunger; and energizes the community to get involved and support hunger relief.
Community Refurbishment and Kit Packing Project with United Way Central Carolinas
In partnership with United Way Central Carolinas, volunteers will join together to refurbish a community center within the Renaissance West community. Hands on volunteer projects include painting, landscaping and installing a computer room for homeowners to utilize. In addition, volunteers will have the opportunity to pack kits full of school supplies, snacks and hygiene items that will be distributed to children and families in need. United Way of Central Carolinas fights for the education, health and financial stability of every person in their region, improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of local communities in Charlotte/Mecklenburg, Mooresville/Lake Norman, and Anson, Cabarrus and Union counties.

What is the dress code for the NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service?
We want you to be comfortable while working, so please wear comfortable clothes that you won’t mind getting dirty with dust or paint. Volunteers also must wear closed-toe rubber-soled shoes in order to work at the project sites. You will be provided with an NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service T-shirt at registration.
What if it’s raining?
The NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service will take place rain or shine. We will, if necessary, provide rain ponchos for volunteers.
Will there be food and water onsite?
Yes, the NBA will provide volunteers with snacks and beverages throughout the afternoon. You are also welcome to bring your own refreshments.
Will there be bathrooms available?
Yes, sites will be equipped with proper facilities.
Will there be a place to lock up my belongings?
No. All volunteers will be responsible for their own items, so please secure your valuables in your hotel room prior to attending the NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service.
Can I register additional guest(s) for the NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service?
Yes! If you and a guest(s) have been invited to NBA All-Star, you are all invited to participate in the NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service. Information on projects with age restrictions will be available during registration.
Can my friends and I be assigned to the same site?
Sites will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If you would like to volunteer with family or friends, please be sure to register together in one of the designated NBA All-Star hotel lobbies.
